Lee Sklar

If you listen to Inside MusiCast on a regular basis, you know that we chat with some of the most talented people in the music industry. When it comes to the Grammy Award winning band TOTO, we’ll be the first to tell you that the musicianship of the band members is second to none. But, in case you haven’t heard, Mike Porcaro, bassist for TOTO, has sustained a hand injury that is going to leave him sidelined for the band’s upcoming tour of Europe, and possibly for more dates this summer in North America. Our prayers and well wishes go out to Mike for a speedy recovery. But as they say in the biz, the show must go on. So TOTO has turned to long-time friend and super musician Lee Sklar to take Mike’s place for the upcoming tour. Inside MusiCast is taking this opportunity to spend a few minutes with Lee to chat about his new role with the band and what to expect in the coming months when TOTO hits the road.

Hi GuysOnce again, straight out of the top drawer! Lee Sklar will be more than a worthy stand-in for Mike Porcaro and the 'Luke and Lee' double act could be quite something! I'm really looking forward to seeing them all in Newcastle next week. It would be interesting if you could catch up with Lee/Luke in a few weeks to find out things are working out. Best wishes to Mike P for a speedy recovery. You Guys keep up the good work.Best Wishes.George

Hey Eddy,I’m hooked on inside Musicast. You have all my musical Hero’s on here. Any chance of getting Michael McDonald on the show? He is a huge influence for me as a singer and keyboard player. I would really enjoy getting to know how he developed his style of singing? And if he took voice lessons to learn how to get the range he has and keep his vocal chops up?

You guys are doing a great job, and I’m totally digging what you guys are doing...

What a great interview and what a great guy. I'm so looking forward to the show (at the Heineken music hall) and now that I've heard him talk, wow great person and Sklar plays really great, I know from one song from Lukather of his first solo album. Great playing. Congratulations for yet another great interview. I'm also hooked!

Hey Rick and Eddie, listened to every podcast and had big fun on the road or at evening when silence returned to my house and everything / everyone calms / cools ;-) down.
Saw Mike three times live, you can see the joy of playing in his facial expression, I'm loving his tone and his groove. The interviews with Lee are a highlight. A funny guy with an awe-inspiring list of sessions and gigs. I'm curious about his influence on Toto's music and can't wait to see the live DVD - although I'm a little sad that Mike's not on deck. Wish him a speedy recovery - ready for Toto's 30th birthday.

You're absolutely right! Lee is the real deal...and you know, I heard him in an interview lately with a German radio station (ya vol!) and he says that this tour is so "bitter-sweet" because of Mike's injury...the guy has heart and is a pro at the highest level. Thanks for your feedback. You're our kind of listener!
