Robbie Buchanan

If you read our guest’s bio, you’ll learn that his first gig was at the age of 12 playing piano 6 nights in a small Canadian town in the Yukon Territory. Google his name and you’ll discover that this man’s amazing keyboard talent has connected him to some of the biggest names in the music business over the years. In fact, on one project, Barbra Steisand even came over to his home studio and laid down vocal tracks with him. He was recently back in LA to help out on her new live show with Il Divo and has recently finished recording and producing Bette Midler’s latest Christmas project. His name can be found on almost every major artist’s album credits: Elton John, George Benson, Chicago, Michael Franks, Luis Miguel, Joe Sample, Quincy Jones, Celine Dion, Earth Wind & Fire, Boz Scaggs. We’re glad to welcome a phenomenal keyboardist, producer and writer to Inside MusiCast… Robbie Buchanan.

Here's a nugget of information that is worth gold. During Robbie's latest project for Bette Midler (her Christmas album), he was able to work with the phenomenal Arif Mardin. It was to be the last session that Arif orchestrated before he passed away. We'll miss him greatly. Robbie had the last session with a true legend.EC

I appreciated Robbie's insight on technology in the music industry and how Pro Tools and the Internet has changed the way music is created. I was also amazed at his vast discography and relationships he has developed over the course of his career.

Ger, bon giorno!Good to hear from you. I can't remember whether or not we mentioned it in our interview, but Robbie uses primarily Software Synths for most of his work these days such as Atmosphere, Stylus and Trilogy. I'd guess that when he tracks he would use keyboards such as a Triton, C7F Grand, and Roland samplers. Remember that he mainly uses controllers to pull from modules or synth patches. BTW, Luis Miguel's ARIES is one of the most wonderful albums. I watched his LIVE DVD this weekend. Loved his style and his band....including bassist Lalo Carillo. He's amazing. Thanks for your post, Ger! Stay tuned to more interviews.Saluto!Eddy

Great stories, liked this one. Guys I'm sure you've tried, but what's the outlook on getting Richard Page? That would kind of be my dream interview. Well, maybe Foster too...

For your information, Page and Foster are what we call UNTOUCHABLES. I think that they're always sought after by everyone that they don't want to be bothered...and if they don't know you, then they don't talk to you. Believe me, they've been on our list for 3 years.

Oh...Laboriel, and Landau are UNTOUCHABLEs too.

Oh well. We'll keep dreaming too.
