gear > Mariachis...Never High Tech!

So this Christmas Holiday, our family took a trip to San Antonio Texas. This is where we held my daughter's Quinceañera...it's like a Sweet 16 party...but about 5X bigger, and in Spanish! That's right. This was big. Big venue. Big food. Big lights...and finally, BIG MARIACHIs! It was a wonderful evening, but my objective here is to highlight the incredible Mariachi Band that played at this Quinceañera. They are called CAMPANAS de AMERICA...or, the BELLS of AMERICA. No high tech gear here. Pure analog! In fact, pretty old school. Trumpets, Violins, Bajo Sextos (a huge Mexican Bass guitar), and violas. Our Mariachi troupe was 13 strong and they had a sound that was explosive! CAMPANAS is a Grammy Award-winning Mariachi Band that has won oodles of musical awards....from the famous Hollywood Bowl Mariachi Contest to international competitions....we hired the best. They played, danced and sang for one hour straight. My ears are still ringing. They played plenty of classic Spanish Romantics such as "Solamente Una Vez"...made famous by the one and only Andrea Bocelli...and others. With pure instruments such as theirs, the digital was put aside and the classic took over. What can be said of the combination of human and instrument making beautiful music without the need for electricity or computers. Made my evening. I might post a clip or two of CAMPANAS so you can see one of the best Mariachi's in the nation. Makes me wanna shout...VIVA MEXICO!
